Have you recently received your personalised handwriting embroidery frame and wondered how to display it on your wall instead of standing it on a shelf?
At Sketch & Stitch Embroidery, we believe your most treasured memories deserve to be displayed beautifully. Whether it's a handwritten message from someone special, a note from a loved one or a sentimental keepsake, our personalised embroidery frames are designed to become a lasting part of your home.
Our small handwriting frames are supplied with the backing already fitted in the standard horizontal standing position. However, each frame can be easily adapted for wall hanging by simply rotating the backing board 180° clockwise.
In this guide, we'll show you exactly how to change your frame from standing to hanging in four easy steps, without affecting your precious embroidery.

A Personalised Embroidery Frame Designed for Standing or Hanging
Our Personalised Handwriting Embroidery Frame transforms meaningful handwritten messages into beautiful embroidered keepsakes.
Each original message is carefully recreated in embroidery thread, preserving the unique character of the handwriting, including the little imperfections that make it so special.
Presented in our classic white 13 × 18 cm frame, these sentimental gifts are perfect for displaying treasured memories in your home.
Your frame arrives with its backing positioned for standing display. This is our standard fitting, allowing customers to place their frame on a bedside table, shelf, mantelpiece or cabinet straight away.
However, we understand that everyone has a different preference for displaying their keepsakes.
That's why our frames are designed with a backing board that can be adjusted to allow wall hanging, without needing to purchase a different frame.
How to Change Your Embroidery Frame from Standing to Hanging
Changing your frame from a standing position to a wall-hanging position is a simple process that only takes a few minutes.
Follow our four-step guide below.
Step 1: Identify the Original Standing Position
Your Sketch & Stitch Embroidery frame arrives with its black backing board already fitted for standing display.
Turn your frame over carefully and place it face down on a clean, soft surface to protect the front.
You'll notice the diagonal support stand on the back, along with the hanging brackets.
In the original standing position, the horizontal hanging bracket is located at the bottom of the backing board.
This is completely normal and simply means that your frame is currently configured for standing use.
Step 2: Carefully Remove the Backing Board
Locate the small securing tabs around the back of your frame.
Gently lift or turn these tabs to release the black backing board.
Once the tabs are open, carefully remove the backing board from the white frame.
Take care not to disturb the embroidered artwork inside.
Important: You only need to remove and rotate the backing board. The embroidery, fabric and outer frame should all remain in their original positions.
Step 3: Rotate the Backing Board 180° Clockwise
This is the most important step!
With the backing board removed, rotate it clockwise by 180°, completing a half-turn.
This moves the horizontal hanging bracket from the bottom of the backing board to the top.
You'll notice that the Sketch & Stitch logo sticker on the backing will now appear upside down.
This is correct! The upside-down logo simply confirms that the backing board has been rotated into its new hanging position.
There is no need to adjust the support stand or change anything on the embroidered design itself.
Step 4: Refit the Backing Board and Secure the Tabs
With the backing board now rotated, carefully place it back inside the frame.
Check that the horizontal hanging bracket is positioned at the top, ready for wall hanging.
Once the backing is sitting securely in place, close the securing tabs around the frame.
Make sure all tabs are properly fastened before lifting your frame.
Your personalised handwriting embroidery frame is now ready to hang!
Displaying Your Handwriting Frame on the Wall
Once you've adjusted the backing board, you can choose where to display your personalised embroidery keepsake.
Our handwriting frames make a beautiful addition to:
-
Bedrooms: Keep a handwritten message from someone special close to you.
-
Living rooms: Display treasured family memories on a gallery wall.
-
Hallways: Create a meaningful display of family photographs and personalised keepsakes.
-
Memory corners: Honour a loved one with a sentimental embroidered message.
-
Nurseries: Preserve a handwritten note or loving message for a little one.
Before hanging, make sure you use a suitable wall fixing for your wall type and that the frame's hanging bracket is securely engaged.

Can I Change My Frame Back to Standing?
Absolutely!
One of the lovely features of our small handwriting embroidery frames is the flexibility to change how they're displayed.
If you decide to move your frame from the wall to a shelf or bedside table, you can simply reverse the process.
Carefully remove the backing board, rotate it another 180° and refit it into the frame, returning the support stand and fittings to their original standing configuration.
This gives you the freedom to change your display whenever you rearrange your home.
Preserving Handwriting and Memories That Mean the Most
For many of our customers, their personalised handwriting frame is much more than a piece of home décor.
It's a way to hold onto a moment, a message or the handwriting of someone they love.
Whether it's handwriting from a grandparent, a loving note from a parent or a message from someone who is no longer with us, these pieces carry incredibly special memories.
We recently received this beautiful review from one of our customers, Tilly Scott-Croxford, who ordered a frame featuring her grandfather's handwriting:
"I absolutely loved my stitched frame I got of my gramps’ handwriting, it made my day. The quality is lovely and it looks so beautiful. Thank you so much!"
— Tilly Scott-Croxford, Trustpilot Review
Messages like these remind us why we love creating personalised embroidered keepsakes.
Every piece of handwriting has a story, and we take great care in recreating those precious words in embroidery so they can be displayed and treasured for years to come.
Frequently Asked Questions About Our Handwriting Frames
Do the handwriting frames come ready to hang?
Our small handwriting embroidery frames are supplied with the backing fitted in the standard standing position. However, they can be easily adjusted for hanging by rotating the backing board 180° clockwise.
Do I need any additional frame fittings?
No additional fittings are required on the frame itself. The hanging brackets are already attached to the backing board. You will only need a suitable wall fixing to hang your frame securely.
Is it normal for the Sketch & Stitch Embroidery sticker to be upside down?
Yes! When you rotate the backing board into the hanging position, the logo sticker will appear upside down. This is completely normal and does not affect the frame or embroidery.
Will rotating the backing affect my embroidery?
No. Only the removable backing board needs to be rotated. The embroidered handwriting and outer frame remain completely unchanged.
